We Care About Children and Families

Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program

Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is a Supplemental Nutrition Program that offers food vouchers, nutrition education and counseling, and health care referrals to low-income pregnant or postpartum women, breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding, and to infants and children up to age 5.

Administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Services, participants receive vouchers to purchase a monthly food package designed to supplement their diets. High in protein, calcium, iron, and Vitamins A and C, these foods include iron-fortified infant formula, infant cereal, iron-fortified adult cereal, Vitamin C-rich fruit or vegetable juice, eggs, milk, cheese, and peanut butter or dried beans and peas.

Who is eligible?

Pregnant or postpartum women, infants, and children up to age 5 are eligible if they meet income eligibility guidelines, state residency requirements, and are assessed as being at nutritional risk by a health care professional.  Participants who are in certain other benefit programs, such as Food Stamps or Medicaid, automatically meet the WIC income eligibility requirement.
