San Joaquin County offers a wide range of services to residents in need of assistance.

FOOD
  • Zion Luthern Church: 808 W. Porter, Stockton; 477-0259

Food Pantry is open Fridays, 11am-1pm. Take ID for each family member and financial information for first visit.

  • Emergency Food Bank: 7 W. Scotts Ave, Stockton; 464-7369

Once every 2 weeks and must bring ID for every member of the family. Food Bank is open Tues.-Fri., 10am-1pm, and Sat., 10am-12pm.


HOUSING

Landlord Disputes

  • San Joaquin Fair Housing: 247 E. Miner, Stockton; 451-3471

Offers information, training, mediation, and counseling for landlord/tenant disputes.

  • CA Rural Legal Assistance: 20 N. Sutter, Ste 20, Stockton; 946-0605

Provides no-cost/low-cost legal assistance in areas of housing, education, health and family services, and employment law. Open Mon.-Fri., 9am-4pm, closed 12-1pm for lunch.

 

Shelters

Accepts women with children; has separate shelter for men.

 

Subsidized Housing

EMPLOYMENT SERVICES
  • Goodwill Industries: 129 S. Grant St., Stockton; 466-2311 ext. 235

Provides free training in the fiels of Office Technology, Janitorial Services, and Industrial Technologies. Orientation is every Tuesday at 9am. Arrive at least 30 minutes early. Dress nicely; no slippers, flip flops, sweats, shorts, pajama pants or tank tops. Classes are every day, Mon.-Fri., for 4 hours. Session 1 is 7:30-11:30; Session 3 is 12:30-4:30pm.

  • WorkNET of San Joaquin County: 56 S. Lincoln, Stockton; 468-3500

Provides help with resumes, unemployment insurance, and job searches.


MENTAL HEALTH
  • La Familia Servicios Psico-Sociales: 1149 N. El Dorado, Stockton;      468-2335

Outpatient services including evaluation, case management, and counseling. Specializes in Hispanic and Chinese cultural needs.

  • Crises Clinic: 1212 N. California St., Stockton; 468-8686

Provides psychiatric evaluation Mon.-Fri. 8:30am-5:30pm on a walk-in basis for uninsured/underinsured.


YOUTH ACTIVITIES

T-ball, soccer, and basket ball for children aged 3 and up.

Mommie & Me classes for children aged 0-5, free trial class.

 

  • City of Stockton Office of Community Services: 6 E. Lindsay St., Stockton 937-8206

Variety of classes (art, physical education, etc.) at a low cost.

Various literacy activities, including preschool story time.


EDUCATIONAL SERVICES
  • Valley Mountain Regional Center: 702 N. Aurura St, Stockton; 473-0951

Assessment and early intervention services for children aged 0-3, case management and support for those who are developmentally delayed, Autistic, epileptic, or have Cerebral Palsy, aged 5 to adult.

 

  • United Cerebral Palsy: 333 W. Ben Holt, Ste 1, Stockton; 956-0290

Early intervention for children aged 0-5 who are not being served by VMRC or a school district.Provide speech, occupational, and physical therapies.

  • Walton Special Center: 4131 N Crown Ave, Stockton; 933-7315

A SUSD program that also receives Lincoln students, provides support and a positive learning environment for severely disabled students, and an early intervention program for children aged 0-3.

Preschool

  • Lincoln State Preschool Office: 818 W. Lincoln Rd., Stockton; 953-8652

Free part-day preschool program for 3- and 4-year-olds. Income restrictions apply.

 

  • Creative Child Care: 1700 Porter Way, Stockton; 477-5063

Subsidized child care centers at various locations throughout Stockton.

 

  • Child Abuse Prevention Council Crises Nursery: 540 N California St., Stockton; 464-4524

Short-term, emergency, and respite care for children whose families are going to drug rehab, mental health appointments, domestic violence counseling, or who are homeless and job seeking.
